Pregnancy cold

I am currently pregnant with the 3rd baby, and just now find out that pregnancy cold exist J. Apparently, due to hormonal changes, the nasal cavity will change. The mucous membrane starts to become more blood-stained and soaked, thus it is much more sensitive to irritation. You may suffer from its swelling and soreness. The cells in the nose therefore produce more mucus. Mucus can be thin or thicker, but it is colorless and causes nasal congestion. You may also feel that it is constantly leaking.

I was not very happy when I realized that the pregnancy cold goes away only after childbirth. And exceptionally, it can persist even during breastfeeding. If you are not sure whether it is a pregnancy cold, definitely visit a doctor, of course.

What is good that it is not dangerous for the baby. On the other, there is not much we can do J here is a list of potential remedies, I have found:

  • Antihistamines – the doctor will advise you which of them are safe during pregnancy. They eliminate sneezing, itching and nasal congestion.
  • Essential Oils – Not recommended in the first trimester and should not be taken internally. However, you can use them in a diffuser. However, it is true that you should not leave the diffuser on for longer than 15 minutes. Tea tree, pine or spruce oils are ideal.
  •  Sea water or Vincentka – will improve the patency of the airways, remove mucus and improve the functioning of glandular cells in the nose.
  • Nasal drops – you should only use them temporarily and ideally natural ones based on essential oils, such as Pinosol. For some, such as Olynth, there is an addiction, so be careful. You can also go for nasal drops designed for newborns, which are safer.
  • In addition to these tips, you should drink enough, especially pure water.
  • An air humidifier – I have good references on this one: https://www.amazing-air.co.uk
  • Sleeping in a semi-sitting position might also help, but I couldn’t do it.
